Summary

A guide to the standard (non-corrupted) Gauntlet, released with the Prifddinas update, explaining gear, crafting at the singing bowl, resources, monsters, the Crystalline Hunllef's mechanics, and Gnomonkey's consistent strategy. He recommends 85+ Magic, Ranged and Defence and says rewards data was too limited to judge.

Topics covered

The Gauntlet

  • (0:00) Gnomonkey says the Gauntlet is extremely similar to Dungeoneering as it was in RuneScape just before the Evolution of Combat: you go in with nothing, gather resources for 10 minutes, then use the scraps to try to kill a boss.
  • (0:00) Gnomonkey considers the Gauntlet boss much harder than any Dungeoneering boss and says it requires careful preparation.
  • (0:00) Gnomonkey recommends 85+ Magic, Ranged and Defence for consistent completion, and the highest possible Mining, Fishing, Farming and Woodcutting to collect resources faster.
  • (0:33) The player starts with no armor and a crystal scepter equipped; the scepter is what allows opening new rooms, so dropping it means the player cannot advance.
  • (0:33) The player also starts with a crystal hatchet, pickaxe and harpoon to gather the dungeon's three main resources, a pestle and mortar to grind crystal shards for potions, and a teleport seed that teleports the player to the starting room.
  • (2:37) Resources come from trees, ore veins and spools throughout the dungeon, each giving three resources before depleting permanently, and gathering can also yield crystal shards.
  • (2:37) Items left on the ground in the Gauntlet do not despawn, unlike in Dungeoneering.
  • (2:37) Paddlefish can be fished from pools throughout the dungeon, giving four fish before the pool depletes; they heal exactly the same as sharks and are the only healing method.
  • (6:33) Gnomonkey says rewards are not known because there is not enough data; after six attempts he received two elite clue scrolls, and there is a new sword drop that may only come from hard mode.
  • (6:33) Gnomonkey says he will most likely make a guide for the hard mode (corrupted Gauntlet) as well and made this one quickly for people struggling like he was.

The Gauntlet

  • (1:07) Crystal shards from foraging and killing monsters let the player forge weapons, armor, teleport seeds and potions at the singing bowl in the first room.
  • (1:07) A vial costs ten shards; filling the vial with water at the pump, adding a grimy leaf and then ten shards ground with the pestle and mortar makes a potion.
  • (1:35) The Gauntlet potion gives the same prayer points as a dose of prayer potion and the effects of a stamina potion, restoring 40 run energy.
  • (1:35) Weapons can be crafted after obtaining a weapon mold from a monster: a halberd, bow or staff each costs 20 shards; the bow and staff need no arrows or runes, so Gnomonkey finds them more useful than the halberd.
  • (1:35) Weapons upgrade from tier 1 to tier 2 for 60 additional shards, and from tier 2 to tier 3 using an upgrade piece from one of the demibosses on the dungeon's outskirts.
  • (2:08) Armor needs one piece each of bark, linen and ore plus 40 shards per piece; tier 2 uses 2 of each resource and 60 shards, and tier 3 uses 3 of each and 80 shards.
  • (2:08) Gauntlet armor has equal defences against all attack styles and no negative attack bonuses.
  • (2:08) Gnomonkey compares the weapon upgrades to going from a rune scimitar to a dragon scimitar and then a Ghrazi rapier, so they are very important.

The Gauntlet

  • (3:04) Regular Gauntlet monsters are fairly standard beasts such as wolves, spiders and scorpions; higher combat monsters give more crystal shards and are more likely to drop resources.
  • (3:04) On the very outskirts of the dungeon three demibosses can spawn: a bear, a dark beast and a dragon; the bear drops an upgrade component for the halberd, the dragon for the staff and the dark beast for the bow.
  • (3:04) Gnomonkey hunts for a dragon or dark beast as soon as possible because they drastically increase damage output.
  • (3:04) The bear uses melee, the dragon uses magic and the dark beast uses ranged, and they can hit fairly hard so the player should protect against the matching style.

Crystalline Hunllef

  • (3:34) After the 10 minutes expire the player is teleported directly to the Hunllef's room and forced to fight; there is no way to exit once inside, and the player may also enter manually before the timer expires.
  • (4:05) The boss switches to a full protection prayer after being attacked seven times by a different weapon than it is protecting against, forcing the player to bring two different weapons.
  • (4:05) The Hunllef can use every combat style but only melees if approached, which is why Gnomonkey finds the halberd underwhelming.
  • (4:05) Hunllef can hit up to 35 with his basic attacks, and praying either magic or ranged negates half of the incoming damage.
  • (4:05) Floor tiles turn blue and then orange; blue tiles only indicate where orange will appear, and orange tiles damage the player each tick for around 10.
  • (4:38) The Hunllef throws tornadoes that slowly approach the player and do the same damage as orange tiles; later in the fight he throws two and then three at once, which can stack and do insane damage.
  • (4:38) The Hunllef can randomly disable the player's prayers, requiring them to be turned back on, and all of his attacks can be used at the same time.
  • (6:33) Gnomonkey keeps Protect from Magic on at all times, noting the boss seems to use magic more often, and swaps between Rigor and Augury (or Eagle Eye and Mystic Eye) to greatly increase DPS.
  • (6:33) Gnomonkey recommends using F keys to swap between inventory and prayers for this fight, and says RuneLite has a plugin to rebind F keys to the top row of number keys.

The Gauntlet

  • (5:05) Gnomonkey collects nine of each resource for a full tier 2 armor set, thinking tier 3 armor costs too much time and does not help much over tier 2.
  • (5:05) Gnomonkey tries to get at least his bow or staff to tier 3, which increases DPS an insane amount, and finds only two potions are needed for the whole dungeon; he enters the boss with 25 food, a tier 2 and tier 3 weapon and full tier 2 armor.
  • (5:32) Opening steps: find basic enemies fast for two weapon molds, collect resources as encountered, make a bow as soon as possible and upgrade it to tier 2 if there are enough shards.
  • (5:32) Once one weapon is tier 2, run to the outskirts to hunt a dragon or dark beast for the tier 3 upgrade, using a teleport seed since the outskirts are far from the start.
  • (6:00) Make the two potions when running low on energy and start building armor; kill enemies with the tier 3 weapon if shards run low, and have 25 fish before the timer runs out.
  • (6:00) Before the boss, drop all tools, shards, leftover teleport seeds and the scepter, and decant the potions to about four doses; spare time can go into tier 3 armor or starting the fight early.
